The Pulse Group has recently completed two exciting refurbishment projects at Dronfield Sports Centre and Eckington Swimming Pool, as part of a contract with North East Derbyshire District Council.
Pulse’s contract with North East Derbyshire District Council comes following the highly successful tender win in March 2015, which saw them become Suffolk Coastal District Council’s strategic leisure development partner for the next 20 years. As part of this partnership, the contract has seen them work with a variety of other councils who were involved in the tender, including nearby Bolsover District Council. As strategic leisure development partner to Bolsover District Council, Pulse could assess the leisure provision in the local area and make recommendations to North East Derbyshire District Council, to ensure continuity and a high standard of facilities across all sites within the local area.
The refurbishment at Dronfield Sports Centre, which involved a £385k investment by the district council, has seen Pulse transform the centre’s health and fitness facilities.
Pulse Design & Build – the dedicated construction division of the Pulse Group – was responsible for the installation of a brand-new mezzanine floor in the gym, substantially increasing the size of the fitness suite, as well as the creation of a new group exercise studio. Pulse’s in-house design team were also tasked with designing bespoke wall art and giving the health and fitness areas fresh décor throughout.
Pulse’s dedicated equipment arm – Pulse Fitness – has created an impressive fitness space, with a spacious layout, and sleek new equipment encompassing the latest technology. The facility boasts Pulse Series 2 cardio equipment, as well as strength kit and free-weights.
At Eckington Swimming Pool, Pulse Design & Build created new changing rooms and a modern reception area as part of its £1.4m refurbishment. The gym area has been expanded thanks to a new mezzanine floor, which has also been installed by Pulse Design & Build. The fitness suite has been kitted out by Pulse Fitness with Series 2 cardio equipment, strength kit and free-weights.
As part of the development, a new café was built which features Pulse’s brand-new ‘Gym Bar’, offering customers a wide range of post-workout protein shakes to enjoy. Pulse has also been responsible for creating a new Play Kingdom for youngsters.
Working across both sites, Pulse could examine the project as a whole and offer a complete fitness solution for the area. Ongoing maintenance and kit upgrades are also offered as part of the service package provided by Pulse Fitness.
“We were delighted to work with North East Derbyshire District Council on these two centre refurbishments,” says Pulse Managing Director, Chris Johnson. “They were great projects to be involved with, and our team have focused on maximising space to improve fitness provision in the area and create modern stylish gyms.”
“Pulse have provided us with everything from design and build to equipment installation,” says Councillor Graham Baxter MBE the Leader of North East Derbyshire District Council. “We are thrilled to be able to offer two top quality leisure centres that are fit for the whole community to enjoy.”
